Enter our 5th Annual Stories on Stage Davis/UC Davis Fiction Contest. Watch performances of last year’s winning stories, “A Good Place to Bury Things” by Emily Masuda and “The Conception” by Madeline Gobbo.
Prizes: First Place $100, Second Place $50. Both stories will be featured at our Saturday, May 12, event, where they will be read by professional actors to a live audience.
Eligibility: any current UC Davis student (enrolled for at least one quarter in the 2017-18 academic year), undergrad or graduate, who has taken at least one fiction writing class at UCD (5F, 100F, 290F). Willingness & ability to attend May 12 event strongly preferred.
Judges: Elise Winn Pollard, Creative Writing MA ’09, and Naomi Williams, MA ’07
2018 Guidelines: Short fiction between 1500 and 4000 words. E-mail up to three entries to ewpollard @ ucdavis.edu. Your cover e-mail needs just your name and a sentence explaining your eligibility (e.g., “I am a first-year undergrad who took 5F last quarter,” “I’m a 2nd-year grad student in the CW program,” etc.). No entry fee.
Please attach your entry as a Word doc or PDF; don’t just copy your story into the body of the e-mail. Double-spaced in ordinary font of readable size, please. About novel excerpts: We welcome standalone excerpts of larger works. Please do not send a big chunk of a novel and ask us to choose an excerpt. We won’t.
Deadline: Sunday 3/4/18.
Notification of contest results by 3/31/18.
